How to Unpublish Your Shopify Store in Four Straightforward Steps?

What options for unpublishing does Shopify provide?

How do you delete your Shopify store?


Plan "pause and construct"

The Halt and Build option plan allows you to pause the construction of your storefront. However, unlike the Pause plan (which we will describe in the following section), you can continue to run your store for a lesser monthly charge. You can access your Shopify admin to change your products and optimize your store, but your checkout is disabled. In other words, clients can visit your store and search for things, but they are unable to purchase them.

If your store is seasonal or only open for a limited time, the Pause and Build approach may be suitable.

Stop your store and leave the premises.

In addition to the Suspend and Build plan, the Pause plan enables you to pause your store for three months free of charge. In this instance, you can fully abandon your store and devote your time and resources to more pressing problems.

However, while on the Pause plan, you will not be able to access Shopify admin, run on your store, or sell to clients.

All site visitors will notice a message indicating that your store is temporarily closed. As a result, it is essential to capture visitor email addresses so that you may inform them of your store's reopening and interact with them in the future.

You can reopen your store at any point within those three months by checking in and selecting a new plan. If you opt not to do so within three months, you are promoted to the Pause and Build plan with a lower monthly subscription charge of $9. After this upgrade, consumers will no longer be able to visit your storefront, but your Shopify admin will still be available. Before pausing your store, you should establish a password page so that your customers know you will return shortly. During the store's pause, you cannot access or modify the password page.

You must close your Shopify store.

After three months of your store's closure, Shopify guarantees the retention of all data and configuration information. You can close your online store at any time if you no longer wish to manage it. When you close your store, you lose access to your Shopify admin. You must enter your credit card information and reactivate your store in order to log back in.

You cannot open a new online store with the same store name or Shopify domain after shutting your online business.

Because Shopify Support cannot manually close your store, you must do so yourself. Before you close your store, you must check that any outstanding charges have been paid. This will ensure that you have no outstanding bills after closing your store.

If you have any third-party apps that have access to your payment information outside of Shopify, you must discontinue their services in order to avoid getting invoiced externally after closing your store.

If you sell gift cards, ensure that any outstanding cards are resolved. To accomplish this, you can export the gift card CSV file from your business, which contains the required data.

If you purchased a custom domain through Shopify, you can transfer it to a different supplier. If you purchased it from a third-party, you can delete it from your store using the Shopify admin. Note that if you decide to close your store and migrate your domain to a new platform, Shopify's HTTP Strict Transfer Security (HSTS) will remain on your domain for three months after you close your store. It ensures that information about you and your clients is stored securely.
